To cater the need of the Special Educators in the country, RASS has taken initiative in establishing a college for imparting special education with courses recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
Initially in 1993 the institute commenced Teachers’ Training course of one year duration to provide Diploma in Special Education (Mental retardation). Later the duration of the course is extended to 2 years to improve and enhance the curriculum.Later, course of B.Ed. (Special Education) is also started. RASS-College of Special Education has received “Excellence Performance Award” from Rehabilitation Council of India. The institute is affiliated to Manipal University, Sri Venkateswara University and Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU).
The aim of the course is to prepare the Special teachers at Pre-Primary (Nursery, Kinder Garten, etc.);Primary (I to IV) and Upper-Primary (V to VI) levels to serve in the following settings:
Special Schools,
Integrated / inclusive set up
Itinerant Programmes
The students are trained in Assessment and Individualized Educational Programme for associated disabilities (Multi–disabled-1 IEP), Group teaching curricular activities for associated disabilities autism, Multiple disabilities.
