Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS)
Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) is a unique scheme crafted to focus on the illiterates, neo-literates, and underprivileged. The institute offers training in quality vocational skills and technical knowledge; provides need-based and literacy-linked vocational training. Now, the JSS is being run under the newly instituted Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), Tirupati is functioning under RASS since 2004, implementing activities for urban and rural poor in different parts of Chittoor District.
Major Objectives
Impart vocational skills, life skills, and technical knowledge to neo-literates and their trainees and raise their efficiency and increase their productive ability.
- Provide academic and technical resource support to Zilla Lokh Shiksha Samithi (ZLSS) to take up vocational and skill development programs primarily for neo-literates.
- Serve as Nodal Continuing Education Centre (NCEC) and also manage, coordinate, supervise and monitor 10-20 CECs, as envisaged in the Scheme of Continuing Education Programme.
- Organize equivalency programs for its beneficiaries through National and State Open Through Life Enrichment Education (LEE), providing the knowledge and understanding of the social, economic, and political systems among its beneficiaries in order to create critical awareness about the environment.
- Promote national goals such as secularism, national integration, women’s equality, protection, and conservation of the environment.
So far, the JSS has
- Imparted training to around 32,715 beneficiaries under 53 different vocational trades.
- Microfinance support is provided to 254 beneficiaries at an average of Rs.20,000 per beneficiary through the ‘Thrift & Credit Programme’ of the parent organisation (RASS) for the establishment of micro
- Provided marketing linkages for around 1,400 women to sell their products with the support of local traders, institutions, and marketing
