Schools for Mentally Challenged Children

The organization is running special schools for the rehabilitation and development of intellectually disabled children with the support of well-trained and experienced staff, who are well qualified in Special Education (Intellectually Disabled). The program is aimed at providing special education, behavior modification, physiotherapy, speech therapy, music, and yoga therapy by an interdisciplinary team.

The aim of these special schools is to infuse confidence in them, to make them feel that they are quite efficient and can attend to their daily needs with more confidence than the normal children of their age group and over in society. Special education is being imparted with –

• Teaching and learning material (TLM)
• Toys and play material
• Physiotherapy unit
• Speech therapy
• Prevocational and vocational training
• Extra-curricular activities

  To better manage the functioning of special schools, each school is equipped with a Project Monitoring Committee constituted of Govt., officials, public representatives, and subject experts.

  At present, around 400 children are enrolled in these special schools at Tirupathi, Chittoor, Kadapa, Ananthapur, and Proddatur in Andhra Pradesh and Tiruttani in Tamil Nadu. So far over 1,375 children have benefited since the inception of special schools in the year 1993.
