Andhra Pradesh Drought Mitigation Project (APDMP)
Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) has been actively engaged in this drought mitigation project supported by the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) as one of the consortia of NGOs in the Chittoor district. RASS played a dual role as Lead Facilitating Agency and also as Facilitating Agency to this visionary project implemented by the Dept. of Agriculture, Govt. of AP from 13th Dec 2017 to 31st Aug 2020. RASS along with Pragathi, Praja Pragathi Trust, and Council for Rural Enlighten facilitated the project activities. Promotion of Farmer Producer Organization is one of the critical aspects through which the activities will be channeled to the farmers.
The project works with an integrated strategy to adapt and mitigate drought, which is recurrent in Rayalseema Region. The RASS consortium worked in three Grama Panchayats of 12 Mandals in the western part, known for drought conditions in the Chittoor district. The mandals are Chinnagottigallu, Yerravaripalem, Pulicherla, GD Nellore, Puthalpattu, lrala, Kalikiri, Kalakada, KV Palli, Gudipalli, Santhipuram, and Rama Kuppam. Nearly 8,400 farmers have been mobilized to form FPOs in these Mandals and nearly Rs.1.3 er has been utilized through the FPOs. Besides, custom hiring centers with locally required Agri implements, bioresource centers, communication centers, distribution of animal feed, conducting Rearers’ field Schools, Farmer Field Schools, protective irrigation, groundwater sharing, community managed seed systems, and other interventions for the farmer wellbeing.

- To equip the farming community with an integrated farming system and support system for enhancing their livelihoods.
- For the betterment of natural resources needed for agriculture and allied activities and their optimum utilization.
