Agriculture and Livelihood Programs

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)

RASS has established Acharya Ranga Krishi Vigyan Kendra (ARKVK) in 1992.  This ARKVK has been established in memory of Veteran Farmers’ Leader, Acharya N.G. Ranga. Designed and funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), ARKVK is intended to bridge the gap between the available agricultural technologies on the one hand and their application for better productivity on the other.  RASS - Acharya Ranga Krishi Vigyan Kendra since its inception had been engaged in delivering location specific and need based training programmes for the farmers of Chittor district in the fields of Agriculture, Horticulture, Home Science, Sericulture and Animal Husbandry.

Seed Village concept is the highlight among the activities of ARKVK through which the farmers of the district, especially those from eastern mandals, were tuned to harvest some of their groundnut produce for seed purpose and storing it scientifically for the next season.  Some progressive farmers are cultivating latest varieties of groundnut like Tirupati-4, TAG-24, K-6 etc. This concept not only prevented farmers of the district from an intense search for good quality seed but also reduced the cost of cultivation.

ARKVK is promoting System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method for encouraging paddy eco friendly cultivation that minimizes input cost and also increases yield.   To promote soil based cropping, it has set up lab to test the soil and suggest accordingly. ARKVK roped in rural youth into –farm-related avocations through vocational trainings (vermin compost technology, mushroom production, grafting and budding techniques for starting nursery unit, repair and maintenance of agricultural implements and machinery etc.)
